I'm Done!!!!!

I'm Done!!!! Thank goodness I am done! This has been a fun ride, but I am ready to get my mp3 player. I do have to admit since taking the admin asst. Position for IMG I don't really have time to participate in activities like this, like I could when I worked in Circ. But, with only 4 hours to go I have crossed the finish line. The slow turtle made it! I feel like dancing right now, but I will save my family the horror on this wonderful Halloween night!

My favorite discoveries have been youtube and netlibrary. These are two things that I know I will use over and over again. This program has help me in life long learning. If not for it I really wouldn't know all of the different sites out there to explore. The only unexpected outcome is that I am a little sad that it is over. This really has been fun. I would really encourage PLCMC to do this again. I just wish that there was a way to show patron who wouldn't normally know about this stuff.

Thanks for all of the fun!!!! Ok I am wiggling in my chair I need to stop so the family doesn't scream! :)

Net Library.

So I am finally to the one thing that I was looking forward to the most. NetLibrary! I do have to admit it isn't all that I was hoping it to be. Maybe I just got my hopes up to high. I looked for a lot of my favorite authors and couldn't find them. Once I get my mp3 player I might change my mind. I will like to download a book to listen to while I walk on my treadmill.

Podcasting.

I will have to admit I have used podcasts before, but never knew that I was using them! I use them on myspace all of the time. I didn't know that all of this was out there! I have heard of the staff at ImaginOn using podcasts and didn't want to look stupid, not know what they were talking about.

This winter we are doing a shared project with Children's Theatre where staff can do a podcast of their favorite holiday memory. Know that I know where to find podcasts I am really excited to learn how to make my own!

Web 2.0 tools

Ok- so I am finding a lot of useful tools on Web 2.0 tools Awards. I went to this one site that I found under events. The name of it is called "eventful". This site is awesome! I was able to type in a city name and gather all events that are happens in that city during a certain time. I chose Charleston, SC since that is where we are going for Thanksgiving. I was able to sort the events by performing arts, to charity events, to bands that will be in town. This was such a time saver!!!! I don't have time right now, but I will be exploring other sites on Web 2.0 tools. If they are half as good as this one I have found something new to play with!!!

Sandbox Wiki.

This one was fun as well. With Sandbox wiki I got to dip into other Learning 2.0 blogs. I also got to see what my co-workers favorites are! I love the employee spotlight that we have on PLCMC central, but Sandbox Wiki is much better!

Technorati.

So far, this has been my favorite new discovery. I love reading peoples blogs and this stream lines it to one subject. I got to read blogs on everything from war to Jennifer Aniston. This is a great tool that I will use a lot, now that I know about it. The only blogs I read before were either on my myspace page (from friends) or on Charlotte.com.

Del.icio.us

So I tried my hand at Del.icio.us. I didn't find it very interesting to use. I think that if I were in college or high school this would be a great tool to use for research projects. I don't find it to be very useful in the kinds of websites that I visit. It really is like looking into someone's filing cabinet. I am nosy enough to try that!

Zoho writer

I think that I am going to like Zoho writer. I am not the best speller, and most places where you post a blog there isn't a spell checker. So, to keep from looking like an uneducated person I won't post a blog. Or if I really want to write something I will copy and paste it from Word. Now, if Word is not avaliable, I have this to help me! I think Microsoft and Bill Gates had either come down on their software prices or sites like this

Today's task it to look at Wiki's.

I have learned a lot about wiki's just from my co-woker Casey Saunders. She has created an ImaginOn wiki for the Library and CTC staff to use. The unveiling will happen very soon, and this will be an excellent tool for us to be able to communicate with each org. and how we interact in the ImaginOn building.

I also use wikipedia all of the time. This is quickly becoming my new place for information.

Yeah Wikis!

I am very surprised at the negitivity that is out there about myspace. This is in response to the Keep out on myspace that I saw on Del.icio.us-library 2.0.

Holding our children back from technology is not the way to handle a situation where parents might be scared of what they might incounter online. It is up to responsiable parents to take part in what their children view online. I don't have children of my own, but once I do, I won't allow a computer in their room that I can't access what they are looking at.

Sorry to rant, but I reallly disagree with holding children back from exploring a world that they will one day inhert from us.

I didn't remember, but I already had an account! I used librarything.com when I worked in circulation! hehe :)

This week we are to write about something technology related.

The only thing that I can think of it that I am sometimes scared of technology. It scares me that the minute I learn something new, something else comes along and replaces it. I remember in high school when my friends and I were getting our 1st e-mail accounts, I thought I was sooo cool, and then everyone was talking about IMing. I played along for a while, but I really didn't know what IMing was! It took me a while, but I caught on.

The one thing that I am in love with right now is MySpace! I can now be in contact with my family and friends all over the country and never have to pick up the phone. My sister-in-law and I have gained a close relationship though MySpace. We never had the time to talk on the phone, and really didn't e-mail all that much. MySpace just makes it fun to keep in touch with people.
